The Bobby Blackwolf Show

The Bobby Blackwolf Show is a weekly internet radio show and podcast discussing the latest news in gaming as well as sometimes reminiscing about gaming's history. It records LIVE on Sundays at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific on the VOG (Voice of Geeks) Network Twitch Channel while taking live calls via Discord and including chat room interaction. The show began in October of 2004 as an internet radio only show, taking a hiatus in December of that year. It relaunched on July 24, 2005 and has been broadcasting new content every weekend ever since. On December 18, 2018, it moved from radio to video on Twitch.

While the show focuses on recent news and events in the gaming industry, frequently it delves into the independent or barely mentioned gaming scene, as well as discussing gaming's history with classic games.

The show has covered six E3's, two GDC's and Independent Games Festivals, four Penny Arcade Expos and multiple Dragon Cons, as well as other gaming events in the southeast, like SIEGE and the Southern Fried Gaming Expo.

Some guests of the show during its long run have been: Video Games Live, Homestar Runner, Atari Flashback 2, Beggar Prince, MechCorps, The Silver Lining, PlayStation Home, Gearbox Software, Devolver Digital, Telltale Games, and the IGDA. Bobby has also interviewed voice actors AJ LoCascio (Back To The Future), Jessie Seely (Double Dragon Neon), Ellen McClain (GLaDOS), John Patrick Lowrie (Team Fortress 2 Sniper), and Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect FemShep), as well as musicians Tommy Tallarico (Everything), Ken Allen (Sierra On-Line), Jake "Virt" Kaufman (Shovel Knight and DuckTales Remastered), and GRAMMY award winner Christopher Tin.

The show does not work without YOUR live interaction, and each chatter is thanked personally at the conclusion of each episode. Come join us on Sundays at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific at the VOG (Voice of Geeks) Network Twitch Channel!

Our final interview from SIEGE is with Michael McMain, CEO of Georgia-based independent developer Xaviant, to talk about their upcoming first person magic game Lichdom. But first, we give our impressions of Forza Horizon (which Bobby reviewed on VOG) and the Xbox Smartglass app that just released on Android. Then we take calls about Scribblenauts: Unlimited and Forza Horizon.

This week we have a LIVE interview with Marc Mencher, Co-founder and CEO of GameRecruiter.com and a game industry veteran. In this very motivational conversation, Marc talks all about what you REALLY need to do to get noticed in your job search, how to nail the interview, AND how to keep your job once your game is released. His advice is for everybody, even if his personal services aren't, and you'll end the interview turning your resume into the older Word DOC format. The music break is once again from Professor Shyguy's debut album Geekotica - Chromonyms. Then we take calls about what games we're playing and looking forward to.

This week's interview from SIEGE in Atlanta is with Tom Buscaglia, "The Game Attorney", and friend to independent video game developers everywhere. He has the Game Dev Kit, a set of documents every independent developer should have, as well as supporting the IGDA Foundation, giving college scholarships to video game developers of the future. But first, we talk about Microsoft's new Game Content Usage Rules, which have been slightly modified, but still seem like it'll be the end of Let's Play videos of Microsoft games. Then we take calls about the Game Content Usage Rules, and the Halo 4 leak.

This weekend, we were at SIEGE in Atlanta, learning all about video game development in the south. Our interview this week is with Dustin Clingman, game industry veteran currently with First 5 Games, and the Chairman of the Independent Game Developers Association. He claims that there's still time for optimism in the industry even in the face of all the layoffs and studio closures. We ask him why. He is backing the Old School RPG Kickstarter by Brenda Braithwhite and Tom Hall. Our midpoint music break is courtesy of Professor Shyguy, a chiptune pop music artist...It's the first track of his debut album "Geekotica", called "NPC". Then we talk more about SIEGE, the VOG Minecraft Server, and about how crowdfunding is not actually legal yet...Kickstarter gets around it the same way they claim they don't. Nominate us in the Podcast Awards and the Stitcher Awards!

This week, we learned that Xbox LIVE Indie Games developers have been denied Prepaid Codes to promote their titles. Why is Microsoft turning their back on developers? Speaking of turning a back, Minecraft creator Notch won't help Microsoft certify Minecraft for inclusion in the Windows 8 App Store. Then we take calls about Mass Effect Trilogy and the Wii-U. During the OLR call, Bobby recounts a personal story where a VOG listener assisted with a Best Man toast in Japanese.

This week, we have an interview with Andrew Greenberg, who is the President of the Georgia Game Developers Association (GGDA), Director of the Southern Interactive Entertainment and Game Expo (SIEGE), and a Game Designer at Holistic Design. We've interviewed him once before, so we catch up on what's happened in the last four years. We also get a preview about the upcoming iOS title Fading Suns: Noble Armada, which will soon have a Kickstarter to be ported to other platforms. We also ask when it's coming out! And, as always, we make him talk about Street Fighter: The Storytelling Game, which brings Hadokens to your tabletop RPG. Then we take calls about Final Fantasy, Borderlands 2, and the Wii U comments from last week.

Apple announced the iPhone 5 on Wednesday, which is a slight upgrade over its predecessor, and less powerful than its competitors. People cheered. Nintendo announced final details of the Wii-U on Thursday, which is a slight upgrade over its predecessor, and less powerful than its competitors. Those same people jeered. A LOT of hate went towards Bayonetta 2's developer Platinum Games. They explained why they went Nintendo exclusive. Then we take calls about the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3, and the whole Wii-U thing. And maybe Earth Defense Force 4.

This week, we have an EXCLUSIVE interview with Gearbox Software's Randy Varnell and Jonathan Hemingway. This is the FIRST (as far as we know) follow-up interview with Jonathan Hemingway since the Eurogamer article came out that sensationalized an unfortunate choice of words for an amazing feature in the upcoming Borderlands 2. After the interview, Bobby asks a hard question about why he was able to get this kind of an exclusive. Game journalists are on notice. Then we take calls about Borderlands 2 and about how you should go ahead and get your tickets for Dragon*Con 2013.

There is no show on Labor Day Weekend, because Bobby will be with several other VOG Network shows at Dragon*con. Come say hi! We're tired of reporting on game industry layoffs. When will the industry grow up? Ubisoft believes that the piracy rate of their PC titles is 93-95%. We look at that number and try to put it into context. Nintendo Power is ceasing production at the end of the year. Thankfully, no layoffs result. Square Enix is releasing an HD remix of The World Ends With You for iOS devices, but is charging up to $20 for it...And people are up in arms. Then we take calls about TWEWY, Ubisoft, and game developers getting laid off.

The music for this episode's midpoint break is from the Darksiders II Official Soundtrack composed by Jesper Kyd, and appears on the podcast courtesy of Sumthing Else Music Works! The lead designer for Gearbox Software announced a DLC skill tree for Borderlands 2, but uses an unfortunate choice of words to describe it. OnLive laid off all of their employees and have sold some of their assets to a mystery investor...And let them know in a very bizarre all hands meeting. Sony wants to revitalize the Vita by allowing you to use their Cross Buy feature - buy a select PS3 game, get the Vita version for free. Also - they're adding buttons to the next Vita firmware update! Then we take calls about OnLive, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and iOS devices killing the handhelds.
