The Bobby Blackwolf Show

The Bobby Blackwolf Show is a weekly internet radio show and podcast discussing the latest news in gaming as well as sometimes reminiscing about gaming's history. It records LIVE on Sundays at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific on the VOG (Voice of Geeks) Network Twitch Channel while taking live calls via Discord and including chat room interaction. The show began in October of 2004 as an internet radio only show, taking a hiatus in December of that year. It relaunched on July 24, 2005 and has been broadcasting new content every weekend ever since. On December 18, 2018, it moved from radio to video on Twitch.

While the show focuses on recent news and events in the gaming industry, frequently it delves into the independent or barely mentioned gaming scene, as well as discussing gaming's history with classic games.

The show has covered six E3's, two GDC's and Independent Games Festivals, four Penny Arcade Expos and multiple Dragon Cons, as well as other gaming events in the southeast, like SIEGE and the Southern Fried Gaming Expo.

Some guests of the show during its long run have been: Video Games Live, Homestar Runner, Atari Flashback 2, Beggar Prince, MechCorps, The Silver Lining, PlayStation Home, Gearbox Software, Devolver Digital, Telltale Games, and the IGDA. Bobby has also interviewed voice actors AJ LoCascio (Back To The Future), Jessie Seely (Double Dragon Neon), Ellen McClain (GLaDOS), John Patrick Lowrie (Team Fortress 2 Sniper), and Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect FemShep), as well as musicians Tommy Tallarico (Everything), Ken Allen (Sierra On-Line), Jake "Virt" Kaufman (Shovel Knight and DuckTales Remastered), and GRAMMY award winner Christopher Tin.

The show does not work without YOUR live interaction, and each chatter is thanked personally at the conclusion of each episode. Come join us on Sundays at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific at the VOG (Voice of Geeks) Network Twitch Channel!

THIS EPISODE WAS DELAYED DUE TO NATURAL CIRCUMSTANCES OUTSIDE OF OUR CONTROL. THE JULY 7TH EPISODE WILL BE PUT ON THE FEED SHORTLY. THERE WAS NO SHOW ON JUNE 30TH DUE TO TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES. Microsoft pulled a complete one-eighty on their DRM policies for the Xbox One. Gone are the required online authentication checks, but also gone are some of the "digital future" ideas that Microsoft initially discussed. (This episode upset at least one live listener so much, he left during the midpoint break very loudly declaring me anti-consumer.) We run an interview with Marek Ziemak, Gameplay Producer at CD Projekt RED to talk about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Then we take calls about the Xbox One's reversal.

THIS EPISODE WAS DELAYED DUE TO NATURAL CIRCUMSTANCES OUTSIDE OF OUR CONTROL. THE JUNE 23RD AND JULY 7TH EPISODE WILL BE PUT ON THE FEED SHORTLY. THERE WAS NO SHOW ON JUNE 30TH DUE TO TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES. E3 2013 is in the books, and Bobby talks about everything that he saw...And makes a few assumptions that proved to be completely incorrect the following week. Included are discussions about the E3 experience covering for VOG, and early impressions of Fantasia: Music Evolved.

Microsoft decided to get the bad news out of the way before E3, and gave information on their game licensing scheme, which is having people run to Steam...Which is more restrictive, but that's okay, because we love Valve. A Russian hacker ported The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile from Xbox 360 to PC as a "restoration of justice." When the developer announced that there was an actual PC port happening, the pirates cried foul over the "obvious cash grab." Then we take calls about Vampire Smile, E3, and E3.VOGNetwork.com.

VOG turned one year old this weekend, and we announce (at the END) our "Interactive Coverage" of E3 2013. For more information, go to E3.VOGNetwork.com! We begin the show with two sad stories. Andrew Reisse, co-founder of Oculus VR (makers of the Oculus Rift) and game industry veteran, was killed crossing the street when a police chase came through. We also talk about David Dreger, AKA "Knuckles Dawson", the "original achievement whore" who wrote for Xbox360Fanboy (a division of Joystiq) and appeared on Rooster Teeth's "Achievement Hunters" show, and someone I got to spend time with on several occasions. He has gone missing in Vancouver, and his friends and family are desperately searching for answers. Please contact the Vancouver Police Department if you have any information. Sony has been tight-lipped about the PS4 following the Xbox One announcements, but they did say that they consider the PS4 a gaming console first and foremost. They also answered the question about their used game strategy back in February, and it's identical to what Microsoft has announced...Sony just phrased it a lot better. Microsoft has stated that there will be no discussion of the TV or Entertainment options of the Xbox One during their E3 press conference. EA has done the unthinkable and have started removing Online Passes from past and current games. Then we take calls about the upcoming consoles, E3, and we detail a lot of the new site improvements to VOG.

WHAT'S INSIDE THE CUBE? WHAT'S IN THE BOX? We start off by revealing that Peter Molyneux's Curiosity mobile game has concluded, with one lucky winner getting the grand prize...One hour after he started playing. But really, we talk all about the Xbox One, which was revealed this week. The televised event, as was predicted, was light on games and heavy on the TV and entertainment features, which angered gamers, but the mainstream press ate it up. People were shocked to find out that there were plants in the crowd that were cheering, but everybody does it...Sony openly invites people into their pressers specifically to cheer when the journalists won't. There was a wonderful interview with Aaron Greenberg on Gamertag Radio, you should go check it out. The elephant in the room is about the used game situation, which has been clear as mud. Our callers were all over the map in terms of their agreement or disagreement of the system...But you all know you'll be watching the E3 presser on June 10th when they will show at least 15 games.

Nintendo has partnered with YouTube to take ad revenue from content ID matches of Let's Play videos. Lots of people are upset, because they forgot that SEGA completely removed videos and Microsoft actually has the same policy. EA apparently hates the Wii U and is no longer making games for it...Is it because Nintendo said "no" to running Origin? EA also announced that they're removing Online Passes...What do they have up their sleeve? Then we take calls about the Let's Play issue, the upcoming (at the time of airing) Xbox reveal, and Yahoo buying Tumblr for more money than we at VOG have ever seen in our life.

Indie studio Green Heart Games released their first game, Game Dev Tycoon, this past week and did a social experiment with game pirates that turned into a brilliant marketing ploy. We also look at if it is a direct ripoff of Game Dev Story. The creators of internet memes Keyboard Cat and Nyan Cat have sued Warner Bros over the unauthorized use of their intellectual property in Scribblenauts. The creators claim that it's no different than licensing Nintendo characters. Our final interview from PAX East is with Emeric Thoa from The Game Bakers, talking about their upcoming touchscreen beatemup Combo Crew. Then, OLR and Bobby talk about the next year of VOG (we turned one year old this week!) and the OUYA.

Nintendo has announced that it will not hold a traditional E3 press conference this year, but are rather doing more focused events. Game journalists complain about not being able to write their "Nintendo's E3 Press Conference Sucked" article. 2K Games announced they also will not have a booth on the E3 show floor, but they will still have meeting rooms and appointments. Our interview from PAX is with Jon Ingold and Joseph Humfrey from Inkle Interactive Studios, who are releasing an iOS version of the classic adventure gamebook Steve Jackson's Sorcery! this week. Then we take calls about E3, Nintendo, and Dead Island: Riptide.

The only video game news that anybody needs to care about is Earthbound is coming to the Wii U Virtual Console! We visited the Vintage Computer Festival Southeast 1.0 in Atlanta this weekend, as well as the accompanying Apple Pop-Up Museum. The Museum WILL open again for two days only in it's current location - on Saturday, May 18th, and Saturday, June 8th. Our interview is with Katie Hallahan of Phoenix Online Studios, where we talk about the point-and-click adventure games Cognition, The Silver Lining, and the upcoming Jane Jensen's Moebius. Then we take calls about Link To The Past II, Earthbound, and Tim Curry in video games. Our live outtro music (which airs after the podcast outtro and before OLR takes the stream) is preserved. #BostonStrong
