The Bobby Blackwolf Show

The Bobby Blackwolf Show is a weekly internet radio show and podcast discussing the latest news in gaming as well as sometimes reminiscing about gaming's history. It records LIVE on Sundays at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific on the VOG (Voice of Geeks) Network Twitch Channel while taking live calls via Discord and including chat room interaction. The show began in October of 2004 as an internet radio only show, taking a hiatus in December of that year. It relaunched on July 24, 2005 and has been broadcasting new content every weekend ever since. On December 18, 2018, it moved from radio to video on Twitch.

While the show focuses on recent news and events in the gaming industry, frequently it delves into the independent or barely mentioned gaming scene, as well as discussing gaming's history with classic games.

The show has covered six E3's, two GDC's and Independent Games Festivals, four Penny Arcade Expos and multiple Dragon Cons, as well as other gaming events in the southeast, like SIEGE and the Southern Fried Gaming Expo.

Some guests of the show during its long run have been: Video Games Live, Homestar Runner, Atari Flashback 2, Beggar Prince, MechCorps, The Silver Lining, PlayStation Home, Gearbox Software, Devolver Digital, Telltale Games, and the IGDA. Bobby has also interviewed voice actors AJ LoCascio (Back To The Future), Jessie Seely (Double Dragon Neon), Ellen McClain (GLaDOS), John Patrick Lowrie (Team Fortress 2 Sniper), and Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect FemShep), as well as musicians Tommy Tallarico (Everything), Ken Allen (Sierra On-Line), Jake "Virt" Kaufman (Shovel Knight and DuckTales Remastered), and GRAMMY award winner Christopher Tin.

The show does not work without YOUR live interaction, and each chatter is thanked personally at the conclusion of each episode. Come join us on Sundays at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific at the VOG (Voice of Geeks) Network Twitch Channel!

The Next Generation has arrived with the Sony PlayStation 4! We don't review the console, because "it is what it is" - that phrase is explained. We do talk about the features, such as the streaming integration, the camera, Vita Remote Play, and PSN being down. The games that we talk about are Flower, Resogun, Contrast, and Need For Speed: Rivals.

In this last episode of the current generation, we look back and forward toward what we saw and what we hope to see. That doesn't stop us from discussing "Resolutiongate" - even if it might mean some people get extremely upset. In some Oculus Rift-centered talk, the highly regarded Breakout With Your Head Demo Turned Kickstarter Proton Pulse Rift was mysteriously removed from Steam Greenlight, its 2D versions removed from both the iOS and Android App Stores, and all Kickstarter backers refunded with a vague apology but no reason. Then we take calls about Steam games (yes, even on the PS4 launch week) and about if you should get any next-gen consoles or not.

Tonight, we have a LIVE interview with Dave Gilbert of Wadjet Eye Games - the point and click adventure game publisher that had an unfortunate promotion go horribly wrong on what we are now calling "Blackwell Friday". We ask about what happened, why it happened, and why the resolution might be scary for some consumers. We also get an EXCLUSIVE answer about an upcoming port of Gemini Rue, and just talk about adventure games in general. Nintendo got scared and abruptly shut off the Swapnote feature of the 3DS after it learned some people were using it for naughty things. Sony released a massive FAQ of things you can and can't do with the PlayStation 4, all of which could be fixed by a future software update...But will they ever fix it? Then we take calls about the new way that Humble Bundle gives out Steam codes.

Bobby attended the Xbox One Tour in Atlanta, and has a full report. Impressions of Forza Motorsport 5, Killer Instinct, Crimson Dragon, LocoCycle, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, and Ryse are all included. Sony is going to have a day one patch for the PlayStation 4 that enables a lot of the online features as well as some curious offline ones, such as Blu-Ray and DVD playback. Then we take a call about The Evil G.

We start off with a question - "What's your favorite game you've NEVER played?" (Caveat: must be a game that you COULD have played, but chose not to for whatever reason. Unreleased and unattainable games are the easy answers and do not count.) This question was asked in chat while Bobby was talking about The Stanley Parable Demo and how it didn't convince him to spend $15 on something nobody wants to explain. Ubisoft has announced that they will delay Watch_Dogs and The Crew, and they will no longer launch with the new consoles. Already existing Ubisoft games, Rayman Legends and Splinter Cell: Blacklist, missed sales targets as well...Perhaps because one of them was delayed? Sony has delayed DRIVECLUB and DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition and they will also not be available at the launch of the PS4. Pokemon X and Y has sold over 4 million units in a week, so please continue telling me that Nintendo is a failing company. (Be sure to not save your game outside a building in Lumiose City!) Then we take calls about Pokemon X and Y from the perspective of a visually impaired gamer, and Rayman Legends.

More people are getting into the Steam Family Sharing beta, and there's a brilliant way to make sure people only share with family and friends they trust, and there's a lot of people who don't like that. Rapper Daz Dillinger has sent a cease and desist to Rockstar Games over the use of two of his tracks in Grand Theft Auto V, but thanks to how music licensing works, he doesn't really have a case. Thanks to the bugs in GTA Online, Rockstar is going to break the in-game economy by awarding players money in their banks. Lots of money. Then we take calls about the Steam Machine, why Valve might be doing SteamOS, and Stanley Parable. (Music break is from Gabriel Knight 20th Anniversary Edition)

This past weekend was the Southern Interactive Entertainment and Game Expo, a GDC-like conference based in Georgia. The winners of the Games for Health Jam were announced, even without the CDC's involvement. I was there speaking on a panel about the Oculus Rift (video embedded on the VOGNetwork.com episode description) and attending my first live eSports event for the game F2P MOBA Smite. EA Sports has cancelled the NCAA Football series, even though that's not what the lawyers wanted. Then we take calls about Steam Family Sharing, fine steak dinners, and Xbox One pack-in games.

This week is a non-live show due to previous commitments, but that doesn't mean we don't have interesting content for you. Bobby visited the first ever Games for Health Jam, put on by the Georgia Game Developers Association and the Centers for Disease Control at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, GA. We first interview Ben Sawyer, who co-founded the Games for Health project in 2004, about what he hopes to achieve having video games advocate healthy living, what he feels the current crop of students can achieve, and some hopes for the future. Then, we interview Dan Baden and Leigh Willis from the Centers for Disease Control about what a "Game for Health" really is, and what they hope to see from the next 48 hours. (We also check in with them at the end of the 48 hours to get a post-mortem right after they picked the finalists who will be judged at SIEGE this coming weekend where Bobby is also a speaker.) We also talk to a couple teams willing to stop coding long enough to talk about their game idea, any setbacks, advice for future game jams, and how pissed off they were that they were there instead of playing Grand Theft Auto V.

It's the 400th Episode (really?)...We have a few listeners offer us congrats, but it's ultimately a regular show. Valve is teasing three announcements over the next week, so obviously "Half Life 3 Confirmed" jokes fill the segment. Blizzard will remove both auction houses from Diablo 3 in March of next year. Grand Theft Auto V is out and made a lot of money...Why are we not all dead yet? Then we take calls about the upcoming (at the time of the live show) Steam announcements, Final Fantasy XIV, and Grand Theft Auto V.

The 400th Episode of The Bobby Blackwolf Show is THIS COMING SUNDAY, September 22nd. Check the VOG Forums for how to submit audio for a possible montage. Steam is introducing Family Sharing - where you can share your entire Steam library with family and "close friends". In Japan, Sony has announced the PS Vita TV, a $100 device that will play Vita games and use the PSN on a TV. We don't get any calls, but we do talk about Dragon Con, an upcoming CDC-sponsored Game Jam, Grand Theft Auto V, and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX.
