The Bobby Blackwolf Show

The Bobby Blackwolf Show is a weekly internet radio show and podcast discussing the latest news in gaming as well as sometimes reminiscing about gaming's history. It records LIVE on Sundays at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific on the VOG (Voice of Geeks) Network Twitch Channel while taking live calls via Discord and including chat room interaction. The show began in October of 2004 as an internet radio only show, taking a hiatus in December of that year. It relaunched on July 24, 2005 and has been broadcasting new content every weekend ever since. On December 18, 2018, it moved from radio to video on Twitch.

While the show focuses on recent news and events in the gaming industry, frequently it delves into the independent or barely mentioned gaming scene, as well as discussing gaming's history with classic games.

The show has covered six E3's, two GDC's and Independent Games Festivals, four Penny Arcade Expos and multiple Dragon Cons, as well as other gaming events in the southeast, like SIEGE and the Southern Fried Gaming Expo.

Some guests of the show during its long run have been: Video Games Live, Homestar Runner, Atari Flashback 2, Beggar Prince, MechCorps, The Silver Lining, PlayStation Home, Gearbox Software, Devolver Digital, Telltale Games, and the IGDA. Bobby has also interviewed voice actors AJ LoCascio (Back To The Future), Jessie Seely (Double Dragon Neon), Ellen McClain (GLaDOS), John Patrick Lowrie (Team Fortress 2 Sniper), and Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect FemShep), as well as musicians Tommy Tallarico (Everything), Ken Allen (Sierra On-Line), Jake "Virt" Kaufman (Shovel Knight and DuckTales Remastered), and GRAMMY award winner Christopher Tin.

The show does not work without YOUR live interaction, and each chatter is thanked personally at the conclusion of each episode. Come join us on Sundays at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific at the VOG (Voice of Geeks) Network Twitch Channel!

Social game maker King has trademarked the word Candy, and has started going after other app developers for using the word in the titles of their games, citing that it causes "brand confusion." They are also in the process of trademarking the word Saga, and have gone after Stoic, the creators of The Banner Saga, stating that their viking epic also causes brand confusion with their casual games. All this amongst a backdrop of King stealing another game years ago, which they have since removed. Then we take a call about if all this litigation is a sign that the video game industry is maturing.

The first big gaming Kickstarter, "Double Fine Adventure", has finally come out as Broken Age. Act 1 was released to backers, but those with blogs or media connections were asked to hold all reviews and impressions until the 27th, even though they paid for the title. Verizon successfully got the courts to remove the Net Neutrality requirements from the FCC guidelines. This means you'll pay more for PlayStation Now or Netflix somehow.

The first week of 2014 yielded very little news, so I invited Reverend Kyle of the Rev VR Podcast to talk about the VR gaming revolution, focused on the Oculus Rift. This was recorded before CES, so there was speculation on what would be shown. We talk about the past, present, and future of VR, and give advice on what experiences to start with.

Nintendo's big Beyonce-style gaming announcement is a collection of older games - NES Remix...And it's not as good as games like Retro Game Challenge for the DS (which is EXCELLENT.) During a Killer Instinct tournament, a DRM check occurred...Was this really the return of the 24-hour Xbox One check or something more normal? A new non-profit group has been formed to help YouTube Let's Play producers with their monetization efforts in response to the latest Content ID sweeps. YouTube made another sweep of Content ID copyright claims, and most of them are invalid...But there's nothing anyone can really do about it. Even if the game publishers allow monetization, you can find yourself on the receiving end of a complaint from the music producer or even other Let's Play channels! Oculus received $75 million in funding from one of the creators of the Mosaic web browser. Nobody called, so during the OLR call we talked about how Bobby started Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and how it's different from EverQuest...Which included some stories about being a volunteer guide in Norrath.

We read a comment from last week's show that talks about the lack of storage management on the Xbox One, and the implications of that particular design decision. People are being banned from the Game DVR and Upload Studio functions of the Xbox One for using curse words, even if they are done in an entertaining manner. The Playroom streams have been removed from the directory on Twitch after people used them for non-gaming content. How did the consoles do on Black Friday? We take a look at what one research firm says. John Carmack has left iD Software to work full time on the REAL next-gen, the Oculus Rift. Then we take calls about cursing online, why Flower is more of an experience than a game, and Steam sales. (Due to the late posting of this show, the passphrase is in the first five minutes of the episode.)
