The Bobby Blackwolf Show

The Bobby Blackwolf Show is a weekly internet radio show and podcast discussing the latest news in gaming as well as sometimes reminiscing about gaming's history. It records LIVE on Sundays at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific on the VOG (Voice of Geeks) Network Twitch Channel while taking live calls via Discord and including chat room interaction. The show began in October of 2004 as an internet radio only show, taking a hiatus in December of that year. It relaunched on July 24, 2005 and has been broadcasting new content every weekend ever since. On December 18, 2018, it moved from radio to video on Twitch.

While the show focuses on recent news and events in the gaming industry, frequently it delves into the independent or barely mentioned gaming scene, as well as discussing gaming's history with classic games.

The show has covered six E3's, two GDC's and Independent Games Festivals, four Penny Arcade Expos and multiple Dragon Cons, as well as other gaming events in the southeast, like SIEGE and the Southern Fried Gaming Expo.

Some guests of the show during its long run have been: Video Games Live, Homestar Runner, Atari Flashback 2, Beggar Prince, MechCorps, The Silver Lining, PlayStation Home, Gearbox Software, Devolver Digital, Telltale Games, and the IGDA. Bobby has also interviewed voice actors AJ LoCascio (Back To The Future), Jessie Seely (Double Dragon Neon), Ellen McClain (GLaDOS), John Patrick Lowrie (Team Fortress 2 Sniper), and Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect FemShep), as well as musicians Tommy Tallarico (Everything), Ken Allen (Sierra On-Line), Jake "Virt" Kaufman (Shovel Knight and DuckTales Remastered), and GRAMMY award winner Christopher Tin.

The show does not work without YOUR live interaction, and each chatter is thanked personally at the conclusion of each episode. Come join us on Sundays at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific at the VOG (Voice of Geeks) Network Twitch Channel!

Dragon Con is this weekend, and a lot of VOG people are on a lot of panels. Come say hi! We have some first impressions of Diablo 3 on PS4, which we played before PSN was taken down and bomb threats were issued to airplanes. Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen's next game Swing Copters came out, and it didn't take long for a bunch of knockoffs to appear. PlayStation Home has been foreclosed on in Asia (staying open in US and Europe) - what should happen to people who bought virtual items and are now PlayStation Homeless? Then we take calls about PlayStation Home and Diablo 3.

I will be on FOUR panels (plus an awards ceremony) at Dragon Con in Atlanta...Hope to see you there! In the weekly Oculus Rift DK2 update, we talk about wearing glasses and how that affects Chromatic Aberration. Activision is bringing Sierra back...as an indie publishing label. Sony has detailed the Share Play functionality of the PS4, which sounds neat in concept, but not sure about the hardware limitations. Then we get a call from Reverend Kyle talking about his VR podcast and his recently funded Kickstarter.

When we recorded, we didn't know anything more about Sierra's eventual return other than the teaser trailer, but we were cautiously optimistic... I've spent more time with the Oculus Rift DK2, but not TOO much more - not many things support it well yet, and that's ruffling the feathers of some enthusiasts. Twitch.tv has gone through some massive sweeping changes in preparation of their acquisition by Google, and that's ruffling the feathers of the streaming community. Unfortunately, their alternative isn't going to be as safe for long... Then we take calls about music licenses and Plants vs. Tresspassers.

The Oculus Rift Developer Kit 2 (DK2) has arrived! And...it definitely earns the name "DEVELOPER KIT" as it's not really ready for much of anything yet. We talk about how it hooks up and then how you set it up differently for each experience. Once it works, though...it works beautifully. There were a FEW games that we did try - Radial-G SP, Vanguard V, Proton Pulse, Endless Reach, and we would have tried Project Torus if the developer liked us enough.

The show turned NINE YEARS OLD this week - and we celebrated by not having the Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 yet...But it shipped, at least! Level 8 in the Destiny Beta was achieved before it ended, and this COULD be the First Person Shooter for people who don't like First Person Shooters! Sony settled the class action lawsuit regarding the PSN hack, but don't admit any wrongdoing. Then we take calls about Oddworld: New and Tasty, Freedom Planet, Peter Dinklage's voice acting, and the Destiny Beta.

Since the new Oculus Rifts haven't shipped yet, we talk about the recently successful Atlanta VR Meetup. It went 95% smoothly, and as usual, the 5% gets highlighted - but only so other organizers don't make the same mistakes in the future. In the midst of the 18,000 layoffs that Microsoft is doing, they will be shutting down Xbox Entertainment Studios. Google announced they will no longer label apps with In-App Purchases as "Free" to conform to a ruling by the European Commission. This dovetails into a discussion about when gaming became mainstream enough to assume that everyone knew them and how they worked.

We start off by congratulating RPGrinders on their 300th episode, and pimping a future (at the time) meeting of the Atlanta VR Meetup. The Evil G is at it again, and wants to tie exclusive gameplay to preorder bonuses. The Sims 4 won't have toddlers or pools at launch, and EA states it's because of other code and not that they're holding it off for the first expansion pack. Then we take calls about free games, Magic 2015, Shovel Knight, and OLR Rob's take on GaymerX.

Ubisoft got a victory in court by having a patent troll's lawsuit dismissed - except it was about their DRM...Do we really cheer? The International e-Sports Federation tried to segregate their competitions by gender until they realized that was not a good idea. We talk with Keith Brownlow of Monster Arcades about virtual pinball tables - what they're made of and how they work. Then we take calls about point-and-click adventure games, eSports, and what Cards Against Humanity cards make OLR curse on a non-cursing podcast.

Ironclad Games announced that the trademark dispute by Rebellion Developments over Sins Of A Solar Empire: Rebellion has been dismissed, setting a legal precedent. Head of Xbox Phil Spencer told our friends at Gamertag Radio that the Xbox One Family Sharing plan is "still on the roadmap." We have an interview with Daniel Spolar, president of Project Pinball, which is a charity aimed at delivering and maintaining pinball machines in children's hospitals. Then we take calls about the Deadpool table in Zen Pinball 2, GTA Online, the difference between "Pinball Table" and "Pinball Machine", old music listening devices, and how to keep kids out of backyards.

We spent the weekend at the Southern Fried Gameroom Expo, an Atlanta-based convention featuring arcade and pinball machines. Check out the episode page on VOGNetwork.com for pictures from the event! In an interview that I thought was awkward but nobody else did, we speak with Video Game Player Of The Century Billy Mitchell about competitive gaming in 2014, and what he's doing to promote it. Microsoft states that they're not shutting down the Games For Windows Live service on July 1st as was rumored. Did you see the awesome person in the cover photo of a Polygon article about Nintendo? Then we take a call about the Steam Summer Sale.
