The Bobby Blackwolf Show

The Bobby Blackwolf Show is a weekly internet radio show and podcast discussing the latest news in gaming as well as sometimes reminiscing about gaming's history. It records LIVE on Sundays at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific on the VOG (Voice of Geeks) Network Twitch Channel while taking live calls via Discord and including chat room interaction. The show began in October of 2004 as an internet radio only show, taking a hiatus in December of that year. It relaunched on July 24, 2005 and has been broadcasting new content every weekend ever since. On December 18, 2018, it moved from radio to video on Twitch.

While the show focuses on recent news and events in the gaming industry, frequently it delves into the independent or barely mentioned gaming scene, as well as discussing gaming's history with classic games.

The show has covered six E3's, two GDC's and Independent Games Festivals, four Penny Arcade Expos and multiple Dragon Cons, as well as other gaming events in the southeast, like SIEGE and the Southern Fried Gaming Expo.

Some guests of the show during its long run have been: Video Games Live, Homestar Runner, Atari Flashback 2, Beggar Prince, MechCorps, The Silver Lining, PlayStation Home, Gearbox Software, Devolver Digital, Telltale Games, and the IGDA. Bobby has also interviewed voice actors AJ LoCascio (Back To The Future), Jessie Seely (Double Dragon Neon), Ellen McClain (GLaDOS), John Patrick Lowrie (Team Fortress 2 Sniper), and Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect FemShep), as well as musicians Tommy Tallarico (Everything), Ken Allen (Sierra On-Line), Jake "Virt" Kaufman (Shovel Knight and DuckTales Remastered), and GRAMMY award winner Christopher Tin.

The show does not work without YOUR live interaction, and each chatter is thanked personally at the conclusion of each episode. Come join us on Sundays at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific at the VOG (Voice of Geeks) Network Twitch Channel!

The Talos Principle is a first person puzzle game from Croteam that is coming out in December, and we have an early preview of it. Sony introduced Share Play in the latest PS4 firmware update, and it could be the death knell of couch multiplayer. There were issues with the firmware update, particularly about the PS4 Rest Play mode. Driveclub for PlayStation Plus has been delayed, and it's not about a lack of servers. Then we take calls about the Oculus Rift (see Act_Deft's video on the episode page at VOGNetwork.com) and Fantasy Life.

We have Steam keys to give away - listen to the interview to find out how to win one! We gave our first impressions of Civilization: Beyond Earth and Disney Fantasia: Music Evolved. Then we take calls about Bayonetta 2, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, and the Final Fantasy XIV Fanfest.

I was gone at a business technology conference all week, but still have some gaming things to talk about that occurred there. A marketing firm has launched an IndieGoGo campaign to force Valve to release Half-Life 3. Entitled gamers or Valve marketing stunt? A new shock game called Hatred had a trailer released, and we had a caller talk all about it.

This week is a non-live show featuring an interview with James Simpson of Cellbloc Studios talking about the point-and-click adventure game SnarfQuest Tales - based on the SnarfQuest comic strip by Larry Elmore. Forza Horizon 2 is out, and you really should join the VOG Car Club on the Xbox One version. SIEGE was this past weekend, and it included a surreal experience to watch a controversial keynote speaker give an excellent talk about game design.

I'll be at SIEGE next weekend in Atlanta to talk about Virtual Reality vs. Augmented Reality. If you're there, come say hi! We had some comments about Destiny, which is a game that's really showing it's age right about now. Sony announced that PlayStation Home will be going offline in the US and Europe in March of 2015. Word came out that Blizzard's next MMO, Titan, was cancelled, even though it was never officially announced. It happens a lot more often than you think. Then we take calls about Hyrule Warriors and Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy: Curtain Call.

I will be at SIEGE in Atlanta on October 3-5, doing another panel about virtual reality. Come say hi! Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy: Curtain Call was released for the 3DS, and it is awesome if you like Final Fantasy and music games - but it does negate needing the first game. At Oculus Connect, a new VR prototype was unveiled - the Crescent Bay prototype - which joins the HD Prototype and Crystal Cove as stepping stones to another publicly available HMD. Unity announced that the Oculus Rift will become an official deployment target in Unity 4 and 5, which means that you no longer need to purchase a Unity Pro license to create VR experiences. The sale of Mojang to Microsoft was finalized, and Notch is indeed leaving Mojang - because of people like me. Then we take calls about Crazy Chocobos and if there were game-breaking bugs in cartridge-based games that couldn't be patched.

Destiny and the Smash Bros 3DS demo were released this week, and there are impressions of both which may surprise you. At the time of recording, Microsoft was rumored to be purchasing Mojang for $2.5 billion. Then we take calls about Minecraft, Smash Bros 3DS, and stolen lanyards.

Dragon Con was last week in Atlanta, and there were a few video gaming things going on - I talk about the EverQuest Landmark panel and the hour with Lord British. Samsung has partnered with Oculus to bring Gear VR to the Galaxy Note 4. One of the original developers of the Bukkit open source project, which are mod tools for Minecraft multiplayer servers, has issued a DMCA takedown of Bukkit and related projects until Mojang open sourcaces the Minecraft server. Then we take calls about The New 3DS, the non-existent PAX boycott (from a surprise caller!), and a wholly incorrect prediction about server stability on September 9th.

Monday morning at 11:30AM, after everyone has checked out of their hotels and are battling hangovers, Bobby Blackwolf, Rob Roberts, and John from Critical Myth convince people how to get people to participate with their podcasts and not just listen. (This is not a video game podcast, but rather a panel about podcasting. Normal content will resume next week!)
