The Bobby Blackwolf Show

The Bobby Blackwolf Show is a weekly internet radio show and podcast discussing the latest news in gaming as well as sometimes reminiscing about gaming's history. It records LIVE on Sundays at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific on the VOG (Voice of Geeks) Network Twitch Channel while taking live calls via Discord and including chat room interaction. The show began in October of 2004 as an internet radio only show, taking a hiatus in December of that year. It relaunched on July 24, 2005 and has been broadcasting new content every weekend ever since. On December 18, 2018, it moved from radio to video on Twitch.

While the show focuses on recent news and events in the gaming industry, frequently it delves into the independent or barely mentioned gaming scene, as well as discussing gaming's history with classic games.

The show has covered six E3's, two GDC's and Independent Games Festivals, four Penny Arcade Expos and multiple Dragon Cons, as well as other gaming events in the southeast, like SIEGE and the Southern Fried Gaming Expo.

Some guests of the show during its long run have been: Video Games Live, Homestar Runner, Atari Flashback 2, Beggar Prince, MechCorps, The Silver Lining, PlayStation Home, Gearbox Software, Devolver Digital, Telltale Games, and the IGDA. Bobby has also interviewed voice actors AJ LoCascio (Back To The Future), Jessie Seely (Double Dragon Neon), Ellen McClain (GLaDOS), John Patrick Lowrie (Team Fortress 2 Sniper), and Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect FemShep), as well as musicians Tommy Tallarico (Everything), Ken Allen (Sierra On-Line), Jake "Virt" Kaufman (Shovel Knight and DuckTales Remastered), and GRAMMY award winner Christopher Tin.

The show does not work without YOUR live interaction, and each chatter is thanked personally at the conclusion of each episode. Come join us on Sundays at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific at the VOG (Voice of Geeks) Network Twitch Channel!

I've received the consumer version of the Oculus Rift, and now I'll tell you how this Oculus fanboy sees it in comparison with the competition. Be wary of the Windows 10 upgrade - it's hitting a lot of people without warning! FOX used an old clip from YouTube in the latest Family Guy episode, and then claimed a copyright strike against the original YouTube clip. Then we take calls about Pokken Tournament and Street Fighter V.

We'll be at MomoCon and the Southern Fried Gameroom Expo in Atlanta in the coming weeks - come say hi! I played Empyrion - Galactic Survival on Steam Early Access, and give a little bit of a rundown of what could be a very ambitious open world space title. Disney Infinity 4.0 has been cancelled despite being a market leader in the Physical DLC market. Microsoft announced they can now make multi-disc Xbox 360 games backwards compatible on the Xbox One, which means Lost Odyssey (and not Blue Dragon) could soon come to the Xbox One. Then we take calls about bad RPG's that you'd tell your enemies to play, and Civilization VI causing mass work vacations in October.

Bobby will be at the Atlanta Virtual Reality Meetup on May 15th, MomoCon, and the Southern Fried Gameroom Expo in the coming month! Come say hi! We answer a lot of comments from the episode pages at VOGNetwork.com about the HTC Vive, the next PS4, and wage slave attitudes in the gaming industry. Nintendo is only bringing one game to E3 and no new console, but do we really care? NVIDIA just launched a new graphics card multiple times better than their current offering and at the same price, rendering obsolete VR-ready PC's before the VR headset even gets to consumers. Then we take calls about the Vita being underused by Sony and Early Access title Space Rogue.

DirectX creator and former CEO of WildTangent Alex St. John penned an editorial criticizing video game developers for wanting fair wages and normal working hours. Seriously? (WARNING: There is a single curse word in this segment, but it's totally warranted.) Microsoft is ending production of the Xbox 360 after 10 years. Then we take calls about VR (HTC vs. Oculus), I Am Setsune, our memories of the Xbox 360, and why Lost Odyssey really needs to become backwards compatible.

This is the all Virtual Reality episode (some) people have been waiting for - the HTC Vive is here, and I go through the setup, hardware, and experiences that are currently available, including The Lab, Audioshield, Job Simulator, Apollo 11 VR, and Tilt Brush. Plus, a few weeks ago, I was on a Podcaster Roundtable panel at the Vintage Computer Festival Southeast 4.0, and the panel has now been posted by the Floppy Days Vintage Computing Podcast.

We start off talking about both the Xbox One becoming a Dev Kit for anyone, and the upcoming shutdown of Gamepolitics. Virtual Reality still hasn't shipped to anyone, but Senator Al Franken is concerned over the Oculus Rift Privacy Policy. Rock Band 4 PC's crowdfunding campaign failed for a number of reasons. Then we take calls about Gamepolitics, Rock Band 4, and the Sacramento Indie Arcade Festival.

I was at the Vintage Computer Festival Southeast 4.0 and saw lots of old computers, and shot a short video for the VOG Network YouTube page. Go check it out! The Oculus Rift started shipping, and then stopped due to component delays. The HTC Vive had a lot of credit card cancellations, and people are worried. (Turns out this week has been extra bad for Vive shipping...) I used the DK2 of the Oculus Rift on the new software and drivers, and it feels like a new piece of hardware... Nintendo had some controversy, but silenced it the very next day with the launch of Miitomo, their first mobile phone app. Our music break was from PC-98 music composer Noyemi K. Then we take a call about a listener's first foray into VR with the Samsung Gear VR.

I'll be at the Vintage Computer Festival Southeast 4.0 in Roswell, GA this weekend shooting video for our YouTube channel. I am also speaking on a panel Sunday at 3PM with other local podcasters! LEGO Dimensions' final wave of physical DLC has been released, and the Midway Arcade "Gamer Kid" pack is actually worth the investment. Playstation VR sold out in seven minutes, and Sony relented and allowed people to preorder the base system this coming week. A few leaks about Nintendo have been floating about - one has been debunked, the other is most likely also fake. Then we take calls about Pokken Tournament and the leaks.

Sony announced the PlayStation VR release date and price, and made a curious decision regarding preorders that shafted some early adopters. (Note: after recording this episode, Sony reversed course.) There are rumors of a new iteration of the PS4 to be able to handle both VR and 4K gaming. Microsoft listened to consumers and are now allowing Xbox Live gamers to play with, or against, people on other online gaming networks, such as PSN. Then we take calls about limiting VR talk on future episodes, due to the high cost of entry pricing out most listeners.

We have a LIVE interview with Andrew and Brenna Byrd, linguist professors at the University of Kentucky who created the Wenja language in Far Cry Primal. They maintain an online presence called "Speaking Primal" and take questions on their Twitter feed. This interview beings 24 minutes into the podcast. But first, I got to try the HTC Vive Pre and I talk about why it's probably going to be the best VR hardware to come out in 2016, and why it's the most expensive. I put out a documentary/movie/video thing on the Voice of Geeks Network YouTube channel documenting my road trip to MAGFest because I did it in a Tesla Model S 70D - an all electric vehicle.
