The Bobby Blackwolf Show

The Bobby Blackwolf Show is a weekly internet radio show and podcast discussing the latest news in gaming as well as sometimes reminiscing about gaming's history. It records LIVE on Sundays at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific on the VOG (Voice of Geeks) Network Twitch Channel while taking live calls via Discord and including chat room interaction. The show began in October of 2004 as an internet radio only show, taking a hiatus in December of that year. It relaunched on July 24, 2005 and has been broadcasting new content every weekend ever since. On December 18, 2018, it moved from radio to video on Twitch.

While the show focuses on recent news and events in the gaming industry, frequently it delves into the independent or barely mentioned gaming scene, as well as discussing gaming's history with classic games.

The show has covered six E3's, two GDC's and Independent Games Festivals, four Penny Arcade Expos and multiple Dragon Cons, as well as other gaming events in the southeast, like SIEGE and the Southern Fried Gaming Expo.

Some guests of the show during its long run have been: Video Games Live, Homestar Runner, Atari Flashback 2, Beggar Prince, MechCorps, The Silver Lining, PlayStation Home, Gearbox Software, Devolver Digital, Telltale Games, and the IGDA. Bobby has also interviewed voice actors AJ LoCascio (Back To The Future), Jessie Seely (Double Dragon Neon), Ellen McClain (GLaDOS), John Patrick Lowrie (Team Fortress 2 Sniper), and Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect FemShep), as well as musicians Tommy Tallarico (Everything), Ken Allen (Sierra On-Line), Jake "Virt" Kaufman (Shovel Knight and DuckTales Remastered), and GRAMMY award winner Christopher Tin.

The show does not work without YOUR live interaction, and each chatter is thanked personally at the conclusion of each episode. Come join us on Sundays at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific at the VOG (Voice of Geeks) Network Twitch Channel!

No Man's Sky is out, and so that's all I talked about. I enjoy it, but wish the sentinels weren't so omnipresent. Then we take calls about PC games from the early days that people might have missed, and more No Man's Sky.

I was at FandomFest in Louisville, KY last week, and it's a great local convention, but not necessarily something to drive to. Since we were last on the air, a mass exodus of Pokemon Go players has occurred because they couldn't get exact tracking information, but I stopped playing for a different reason. No Man's Sky has been leaked and streamed before a Day One Patch puts in the finishing touches. It's an interesting look into the console certification process, one detailed by Rami Ismail. Then we take calls about gaming news websites not being trustworthy, and how far your gaming dollar goes. Literally.

On July 24, 2005, this podcast was started. Back when the PS2 and Xbox were the most advanced consoles around. Online gaming was just starting. There was no "indie game scene". And here we are, 11 years later, talking about Pokemon. There will be no show on July 31st because I will be at FandomFest in Louisville, Kentucky. Come say hi! On August 7th, I'm scheduled to have an interview with some people behind Dice Lords, a new YouTube comedy series revolving around tabletop gaming. We read a comment about the Classic NES that was announced last week, and talk about why it doesn't have a cartridge port. Pokemon Go is still going strong, but there are some people who are not on board with it and are looking for reasons to distrust it. But really, the night was about calls regarding the last 11 years, what I liked, what YOU liked, what we did that worked, what we did that didn't work (until years later when it became a billion dollar business model) and what we hope for the future.

Since our last broadcast, the Summer Games Done Quick marathon ended (including my donation) and EVO has started up and was broadcast on ESPN2 later that evening. I try to start a rumor that the Nintendo NX was really just a mini NES all along, but nobody bought it. The NES Classic Edition will be out in November with 30 games. Pokemon Go is out and has been a bigger cultural sensation than anybody realizes - and even though the mainstream media has been negative, it has been an overall net positive for civilization. Then we take calls about the Gear VR, FandomFest (where I'll be in two weeks!), and Pokemon Go.

There is no show on July 10th, but July 24th is the 11th anniversary of this little podcast! I'm hoping to participate in a Game Jam this month that is inspired by a Famicom cartridge case...Maybe you can provide the cover by July 15th? Summer Games Done Quick just started when we recorded, and it got the Colbert Bump. ESPN2 will be airing the Street Fighter V finals at EVO on July 17th. We stopped funding large scale Kickstarters, probably because we've been jilted enough times. Fig is having some issues getting money from unaccredited investors. Then we take calls about American Truck Simulator, the Steam Sale, and gaming speedruns.

What did you get in the Steam Sale? I picked up some things, but also picked up Pac-Man 256 for PS4. Mighty No. 9 was released this week to a less than stellar reception, including from the Twitter account of an AAA franchise, jabbing at the developers with a possibly mistranslated quote from a livestream. A Russian game code reseller has come under fire by an indie developer for selling stolen codes that were acquired due to credit card theft. Oculus has removed the hardware check from their DRM so HTC Vive users can play games sold on Oculus Home.

E3 2016 has happened, and once again, gamers won. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was the most talked about game of the show that most people didn't get to play. There's a new Xbox One coming out next year, and there's a new Xbox Anywhere out today. What about people who still buy games on disc? Bethesda announced they were doing VR, and said they were making their games for the HTC Vive, which upset new Oculus fans who don't realize there's an ongoing lawsuit. There's no mention of PlayStation VR needing a new PS4, contrary to what everyone that's not Sony is telling me. Sony's press conference made me cry. Star Trek: Bridge Crew is the Blizzardification of Artemis Bridge Simulator, and that's awesome. Then we take calls about Rhythm Heaven Megamix, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Resident Evil VII.

In this short show due to technical difficulties on the eve of E3, I spend most of my time talking about the Southern Fried Gameroom Expo in Atlanta. The arcade and pinball tables that were there, the panels that I hosted, and the interviews that I wanted to get but couldn't...Yet. Then we talk about some E3 stuff, such as the EA press conference that had already occurred, and then what might occur later, including more information about the next wave of LEGO Dimensions Physical DLC. Then, during a delayed OLR call, we talk about the sordid details of the Coleco Chameleon.

The Microsoft HoloLens Developer Kit is here, and yes, it is expensive, and also very early hardware. We go into wearing the device, the capabilities of it today, the limitations of it today, and why it might not be a great long term gaming solution. We do discuss some games and apps currently available on the Windows Store, such as RoboRaid, Young Conker, Fragments, and HoloTour. Then we talk to OLR about why Nintendo really needs to reveal all the information about the NX 9 months prior to the console launching. I will be moderating four panels at the Southern Fried Gameroom Expo this weekend in Atlanta, so come say hi!

We're sponsoring the Southern Fried Gameroom Expo from June 10-12 in Atlanta! Come say hi! I was at MomoCon, participating in a panel with Altered Confusion, and played a bunch of indie games, including Dimension Drive, MagiTech, and Blade Ballet. No Man's Sky has been delayed a month and a half, which caused death threats to be made against both the director of the game as well as the journalist who initially reported the delay. Then we take calls about violence from gamers, Spy Party, game delays, Mass Effect: New Earth, and how physical rom hacks sold at conventions are legal.
