The Bobby Blackwolf Show

372 - 02/17/13 Bobby Blackwolf Show - Wii U Low Sales, Aliens: Colonial Marines

  • Bobby's a HUGE Sierra fanboy, and teased the Kickstarter project (now funded) of game composer Ken Allen, Under the Half Dome, an album based on a lot of his early work. Including Jones in the Fast Lane. Which we all have an unhealthy obsession with.
  • Ubisoft designer and Rayman creator Michel Ancel joined protestors outside of their Montpelier studio who were upset about the delay of Rayman Legends.
  • The NPD's sales numbers show the Wii U had extremely low sales for a console just out on the market...Is it time to panic yet?
  • The final casualty of 38 Studios is Impossible Studios, the remnants of Big Huge Games backed by Epic.
  • There's been a lot of talk about how the media was lied to about Aliens: Colonial Marines...But is the media really at fault?
  • Then we take calls about Destiny, Ni No Kuni, and Arcadecraft.

Apologies about getting this one out late, folks...The PlayStation 4 reveal knocked my Wednesday night out of whack...

The Wii U isn't selling too well, but who's to blame for it and how can they fix this?

Especially with 3rd Party Publishers giving Nintendo the total shaft, I'm looking at you Ubisoft (And no, Watch Dogs coming to the Wii U doesn't make things better). So it's up again to Nintendo to come with the first party titles that will make the system sell like hotcakes. They have done it before, and they'll do it again. Most people are probably just waiting for the right excuse to get the console.

But besides that, remember when we all thought that the 3DS was a huge flop on Nintendo's part? And look at it now.

I personally don't think the 3DS comparison holds much water. Even with the lackluster start, it had and still has virtually no competition (sorry Sony). The new consoles from Sony and Microsoft are much stronger foes and I really don't see Nintendo coming out on top this time. I also don't subscribe to the doom and gloom forecasters that think this could be the end of Nintendo. Like I said on OLR, just because this console fails doesn't mean they are dead because the handhelds and brand loyalty will get them through any rough patches, even a third place finish in this console generation. It happened with Gamecube and they still survived to slaughter everyone with the Wii.

Great show Bobby! I was having a heck of a time hearing it out of the OLR studio computer speaker so I'm glad I finally got to listen in its entirety. Asking how much Rob played Ni no Kuni is a little unfair though since you can probably do that with any game he played the past few years not called Mass Effect... Just kidding, Rob!

Anyway, looking forward to that possible interview you teased at some point. My memory isn't the best and I can't recall specific games, but I played a TON of Sierra games growing up so maybe it will jog my old noggin.

I only pestered him because Allen asked nicely.
