The Bobby Blackwolf Show

523 - 04/17/16 Bobby Blackwolf Show - HTC Vive First Impressions

  • This is the all Virtual Reality episode (some) people have been waiting for - the HTC Vive is here, and I go through the setup, hardware, and experiences that are currently available, including The Lab, Audioshield, Job Simulator, Apollo 11 VR, and Tilt Brush.
  • Plus, a few weeks ago, I was on a Podcaster Roundtable panel at the Vintage Computer Festival Southeast 4.0, and the panel has now been posted by the Floppy Days Vintage Computing Podcast.

I just bought a bluetooth wireless speaker from Walmart. It's a cheap speaker that was easy to set up for anybody who knows what they're doing to set up. My new speaker came with instructions. The instructions were short and easy to follow, but the instructions were there. My new bluetooth wireless speaker came with instructions because, as a company, you cannot assume that people will know what they are doing. Sometimes you have to tell people what to do and how to do it in order to set up a product.

I cannot believe the HTC Vive didn't come with instructions. I believe Mr. Blackwolf when he says that the Vive didn't come with instructions, but a company putting out a product as complicated to set up as a VR headset without including instructions just makes no sense to me. Not at all.

I am part of the [some] people. I don't plan on buying any sort of VR headset yet, I'm going to wait to see which one is the best to buy, and which one has the games, or experiences I want. I think a lot of people on this website are in that mindset.

Plus, with all the rumours about another PS4/Neo, or whatever they're going to call it around, and it being beefed up for VR, the PS VR might get even more expensive. Let's be real here, you need good specs for VR.

Speaking of a new PS4:

Do you think they will just have the break out box internally on the new PS4?

What's your take on this whole having a new model of a console every 3 or 4 years?

For 3 generations now, we have just bought one machine that gets you through 8-10 years (with console revisions surfacing). I don't like this, and if they're not careful, there might be another video game crash.

Sure, phones have done this for years, but phones are easy to store in your house, they don't take up much room. And if you own an Apple device, they do hold their value. There's even services out there that will give you money for unwanted phones.

Consoles however, are much harder to store. If you decide to go down the trading it in route, you have to deal with a retailer, you could use eBay, but that's a lot of hassle, and let's not even go down the Craigs List option because that's just awkward, meeting a stranger in a car park (parking lot).

Sony won't offer an upgrade programme for the new PS4, why? There will be millions of old PS4's in a landfill somewhere.

Only one person has the answer, and his name is Sir Bobby Blackwolf!
