The Bobby Blackwolf Show

461 - 12/07/14 Bobby Blackwolf Show - The Game Awards and PlayStation Experience, Street Fighter Exclusivity

  • We begin with the sad news of the passing of Ralph Baer, the inventor of the home video game console.
  • Last week, I was on Feedback with Reverend Kyle, a talk show hosted completely in Virtual Reality. It was quite the experience.
  • The Game Awards took place, and it wasn't as bad as everyone feared. Best part? Ken and Roberta Williams.
  • The PlayStation Experience was just after the Game Awards, and a whole lot of games were announced that made the Internet go crazy.
  • One game, Street Fighter V, was leaked, and then announced as a console exclusive for the PS4...But it might not be because Sony offered the most money.
  • Then we take calls about Street Fighter V, The Game Awards, and Steam Broadcasting.

Just to clarify, I don't have a problem with announce trailers, and the announce trailer for No Man's Sky was really really cool-- the FIRST time, but I was starting to find the fact that they were showing the "same thing" each and every time. a little bit of what was in the other youtube bobby linked me too would have been great to see in the literal back to back trailers we saw over the weekend.

i'm sure the game will be great and i look forward to playing it just, something i'd like to see different in the future.

I really liked the game awards, and I'm especially glad they went with the more traditional awards show route as opposed to the long interviews of the VGX. It seemed much more in line with the old Spike awards but without obvious TV network meddling. I know people complain about the length, but I don't mind. I hate when awards shows blast through the awards for the sake of time. It's an awards show, it's in its nature to be overlong.

I thought Phil Spencer's quote on the Street Fighter 5 story was interesting. He said, "When we have a first party franchise in a genre, I'd rather invest in ours," which makes it look like they may have shied away from the game so it wouldn't detract from Killer Instinct. I still think cross-platform play was the bigger issue, but it got me thinking; are there any other fighting games on Xbox One?

UFC and Fighter Within are out now, and there's a Mortal Kombat and Dead or Alive slated to come in early 2015.
