The Bobby Blackwolf Show

407 - 11/10/13 Bobby Blackwolf Show - Resolutiongate, Proton Pulse Rift Mysteriously Vanishes

  • In this last episode of the current generation, we look back and forward toward what we saw and what we hope to see.
  • That doesn't stop us from discussing "Resolutiongate" - even if it might mean some people get extremely upset.
  • In some Oculus Rift-centered talk, the highly regarded Breakout With Your Head Demo Turned Kickstarter Proton Pulse Rift was mysteriously removed from Steam Greenlight, its 2D versions removed from both the iOS and Android App Stores, and all Kickstarter backers refunded with a vague apology but no reason.
  • Then we take calls about Steam games (yes, even on the PS4 launch week) and about if you should get any next-gen consoles or not.

Enjoyed the show as usual but i couldn't make it live because it was my (my girlfriend and I's) anniversary.

Some thoughts:

1) I think the advancement in online gaming REALLY defined this past generation. While online multiplayer gaming really existed long before the 360/PS3/Wii Generation, this generation made it more user friendly and more engrossing (IMO). With the ability to invite friends into games, have them tag along in Single Player campaigns and even create a group/clan/crew of your friends to play with you really advanced gaming as a whole.

2) The gaming community really bothers me with stories such as "pixelgate", yet i am not surprised. These types of graphic pissing matches have gone on in the past generation. I agree that the games matter more to me than the amount of dots on the screen. But truthfully though i think that we won't see either next-gen consoles TRUE potential until a few years into the generation. Devs need time to work with the systems architecture more in order to fully utilize it. Because of that i can 100% confirm i won't get a next-gen NHL game until 2015/16.

Sadly people have been programmed since the "bit" and "Blastprocessing" ages to think that the graphics made the game better. Lord knows how many great Atari/SNES/GEN/ect (mostly Chrono Trigger :P) games we can name off that have "inferior" graphics compared to today standards. In the end, if the game makes you happy for what it is then its served its purpose.

3) I agree that this coming console generation is rushed. I do understand that companies need to make money and please their investors sooner rather than later (because not releasing something during the holidays does hurt them). I think if Sony or Microsoft had 3-6 more months to work on the 360 or PS2, we might not have had Red Ring and Disk Read error problems respectively. Another reason to hold off for at least a year.
