Pumpkin Spice Lattes are just about in season again, and one of the biggest geek culture conventions in the country is about to decend upon Atlanta! It's DRAGONCON TIME! As a child of the 80s, I certainly have a soft spot for the arcade games of my youth. I don't mind seeing a retro classic be re-imagined, as sometimes these re-imaginings use the technology of 21st century gaming to give new experiences and features to the games of my youth. Pac-Man Vs. on the Gamecube was an excellent spin on the equation, as was Pac Man CE years later. Space Invaders Extreme brought a techno and graphical infusion to a shooter that had inspired so many games before it.

Obviously the geek community is feeling a tremendous loss this week with the passing of Leonard Nimoy, a truly classy man who made contributions to our community not just thru Star Trek but thru books, photography, charity work, video game voice acting and MORE.

It's fairly well known in the industry that Nintendo is under a lot of pressure to roll out their incredibly strong characters and game experiences to a mobile platform. While Nintendo has famously resisted these calls for the most part, we are starting to see more of Nintendo testing the waters of the typical "free to play" mobile experience on the 3DS. Pokemon Shuffle is the latest free to play offering from Nintendo on the 3DS, and in some ways the title I'd most expect to have actually seen on a mobile device.

As you may have heard on some of our gaming shows on the network this week, was at GaymerX2 last weekend. GaymerX2 took place from July 11th - July 13th at the Intercontinental Hotel in San Francisco, CA. While we were there, we shot some video and talked to some of the people at the show. Take a look at our VOG VLOG capturing the sights, sounds and most importantly cosplay of GaymerX2. Also featured in the video some of our podcasters here at VOGNetwork, as well as some fellow indie podcasters who took the stage in one of the many panels at the show, "Podcast X Zone"

...Let's be real-- if Dead Island: Riptide is a game that sounds up your alley, the plot is of no consequence to you. You are here to kill zombies in as many creative possible ways as you can. You want it bloody and you want it laced with profanity like any good its-so-bad-its-good B movie. Actually, the B movie comparisons wouldn't get out of my head during my time spent playing Dead Island: Riptide. Calling this game the equivalent of a B movie in video games isn't far off the mark. Cutting some corners with visuals to suit the lower budget? Check. Over the top voice acting that makes the events of the game sound bigger than something it really is? Check. Does it feel like a lower grade version of something we've seen before? Yeah, check... (Click More... for More)

Microsoft's Kinect device is moving into it's third year, and still seems to be most well known for two types of genre games-- workout games and dancing games. I suppose, however, if you are going to do one thing (or two in this case), do it well. Dance Central, in it's third release on the Xbox 360 this past Tuesday, remains the peak of dancing games on the Xbox 360. And with a built in Fitness mode, it takes care of the workout game genre pretty well too. (Click More... for More)
