Orange Lounge Radio 891 - 11/14/2021
The Remastered Editions of Grand Theft Auto from the Playstation 2 era landed this week on PC and next gen consoles and boy has the release been messy. From crazy rain to hidden coding to misspellings and much more, it's very clear shortcuts were taken to get these games released on time. Who might be to blame for these issues? How do we think they will impact the sales of the game? Why does this trend seem to show up every year and big companies haven't seemed to learn? We discuss all of this and much more on another episode of the world's longest running gaming podcast, Orange Lounge Radio!

My personal picks/commentary based on nominees selected:
1. Game of the Year
Recognizing a game that delivers the absolute best experience across all creative and technical fields.
Deathloop
It Takes Two
Metroid Dread
Psychonauts 2
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Resident Evil Village
I'd go with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
No idea why 'It Takes Two' is on there. Game is only good when you have a couch co-op buddy to play with. If the game wins should have a huge asterisk (*) on it
Didn't personally enjoy Deathloop. Don't think it's GOTY material. Don't understand why critics are raving over it
Monster Hunter Rise, Forza 5, and Lost Judgement should be nominated
2. Best Game Direction
Awarded for outstanding creative vision and innovation in game direction and design.
Deathloop
It Takes Two
Returnal
Psychonauts 2
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
I'd go with 'It Takes Two' only if you have someone to play with, otherwise it shouldn't be on the list
Otherwise Returnal or Deathloop has the best game direction
Remaining two we seen them before.
3. Best Narrative
For outstanding storytelling and narrative development in a game.
Deathloop
It Takes Two
Life is Strange: True Colors
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
Psychonauts 2
No JRPGs on the list. 'Tale of Arise' should have been nominated and hands down beat all other games on the list. The game awards Jury must not play mainstream JRPGs
4. Best Art Direction
For outstanding creative and/or technical achievement in artistic design and animation.
Deathloop
Kena: Bridge of Spirits
Psychonauts 2
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
The Artful Escape
Subjective but i'd say a coin toss between Kena and Ratchet & Clank. Artistic vs technical
5. Best Score/Music
For outstanding music, inclusive of score, original song and/or licensed soundtrack.
Cyberpunk 2077
Deathloop
Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
The Artful Escape
Best score is Nier. I can see GotG winning if audiences like 80s music
6. Best Audio Design
Recognizing the best in-game audio and sound design.
Deathloop
Forza Horizon 5
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Resident Evil Village
Returnal
Ratchet & Clank with use of 3D audio tech on compatible headphones.
7. Best Performance
Awarded to an individual for voice-over acting, motion and/or performance capture.
Erika Mori, Life is Strange
Giancarlo Esposito, Far Cry 6
Jason E. Kelley, Deathloop
Maggie Robertson, Resident Evil Village
Ozioama Akagha, Deathloop
El Presidente wins
8. Games for Impact
For a thought-provoking game with a pro-social meaning or message.
Before Your Eyes
Boyfriend Dungeon
Chicory: A Colorful Tale
Life is Strange: True Colors
No Longer Home
Only played Life is Strange True Colors. Ending chapter was sorta deep, but went with a cop-out ending. Wondering which one will win so i can try it out
9. Best Ongoing Game
Awarded to a game for outstanding development of ongoing content that evolves the player experience over time.
Apex Legends
Call of Duty: War Zone
Final Fantasy XIV Online
Fortnite
Genshin Impact
No Animal Crossing and Smash Bros Ultimate?? I'd go with Fortnite due to all the character costume DLCs
10. Best Indie Game
For outstanding creative and technical achievement in a game made outside the traditional publisher system.
12 Minutes
Death's Door
Kena: Bridge of Spirits
Inscryption
Loop Hero
Only played two (12 minutes, and Kena). I'd go with Kena
