Thought I'd drop a MOVIE music suggestion on ya. ;)
I LOVE Ennio Morricone, famous for The Good the Bad and the Ugly(1967) and The Mission(1986), as well as countless other spaghetti western themes and this great theme from Two Mules for Sister Sara(1970):

If it sounds familiar it's because the song also appeared, reworked, in two movies that came out in the past couple of years Django Unchained(2012) and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows(2011). In general, Quentin Tarantino uses Morricone's themes often since his films don't typically have a traditional score.

It's curious that I haven't seen ANY of those movies, despite their popularity and greatness (well dunno about the Sherlock Holmes one, but it's popular <_<)

But it IS a great song, I can imagine the situation where it can be used within the movie without even having seen it. That's something that make good movie soundtracks work, that the piece can work by itself without context.

Granted the original version and the one in Django Unchained are pretty much alike with only a few tweaks here and there. But the Sherlock Holmes version is pretty much a whole new version altogether, which is something I like in arrangements and covers (something that it's gonna be covered in a future OC vs. OCR article)

Anyways, I'll see if I can use this in a future article. Thanks for the suggestion =)

Flaco you have good taste... I've loved Ennio Morricone since the Eastwood movie days and i was thrilled that Tarrentino used him for Django. I knew that the same arrangement was in Django but did not know it was used in Sherlock Holmes.

A lot of Ennio Morricones songs have been sampled and parodied. I would also suggest "The Ecstasy of Gold".

Remixed by Metallica and played at their live shows

Used by the Ramones at the end of their live concerts

Sampled by various rappers including JayZ

But also there is a video game connection to the song:

Wild Arms on the PlayStation

Blur Soundtrack

And also the reveal trailer for Guitar Hero: Metallica

So yeah Ennio Morricone is amazing and has had a huge impact on musicians and music in general. You really can't go wrong with anything he's done.
